Reiki
and Psychic Healing: A Comparative Essay NEW!
by Elige Stewart
There are many forms of
energy healing available to the seeker. It’s easy to get confused wading
through all of the choices for healing out there. This article addresses
some of the different forms of healing you may find in search of a healing
modality to suit your needs. I’ve
chosen to focus heavily on Reiki in the article, as this healing system is
versatile, easy to learn, and is readily available in most communities.
Reiki is an attunement
process system to broaden the channels of energy in a person’s body so
that they may draw in more of the Universal Life Energy from around them
to perform healing and healing attunements.
Psychic Healing is the manipulation of a person’s energy field
via the healer’s own energy field for the purpose of healing.
Doesn’t seem that different, does it?

Courageous Dreaming
by Alberto Villoldo PhD
We are what we think. Everything we are arises from our thoughts. With our thinking we create the world.
--Buddha
Whether you realize it or not, we are all dreaming the world into being. What we’re engaging in is not the sleeping dream we’re familiar with, but the waking dream we craft with our eyes open. When we’re unaware that we all share the power to co-create reality with the help of the Universe itself, that power slips away from us and our dream turns into a nightmare. We begin to feel we’re the victims of an unknown and frightening creation that we’re unable to influence or change. Events seem to control us and trap us. The only way to end this dreadful reality is to awaken to the fact that it, too, is a dream, and recognize our ability to write a better story, one that the Universe will work with us to manifest. The nature of the cosmos is such that whatever dream you have about yourself and the world will become reality.

What Is A
Medicine Bag and How Do I Make Mine?
by Shaman Elder Maggie Wahls
A medicine bag is an ancient item that spiritually represents the person
who wears it. In 1991 the body of a man who lived over 5,000 years ago was
found frozen in a high mountain range and with him was a medicine bag. The
medicine bag is known in all cultures and through out all of history. They
contain objects such as leaves, feathers, stones, herbs such as sweetgrass,
sage, cedar, lavender or pinion, and other objects which have been added
by the wearer and considered spiritually significant.

What Is A Power
Song And Where Do I Get One?
by Shaman Elder Maggie Wahls
Power Songs are oral prayers expressing your true self, your nature, your
individuality, your power. All cultures have power songs but you can have
your own power song too. We think of the power in a hymn or an African
chant, a Shamanic ceremony song or even in the howling of wolf. And there
is definite power in sound.

African Spirits
For many people the idea of African
medicine or traditional healing is shrouded in a haze of mystery and
magical heathen rituals. In reality, what is involved is learning the
secrets of an enormous variety of natural and medicinal plants and other
natural processes that have undergone the test of time. Many generations
have experienced the value of African remedies, both for medicinal and
spiritual reasons.

Animal Spirit Guides and Totems
by Lisa H.
Animal spirit totems can be viewed in different ways according to each of
us as individual people. The basic principle of an animal totem is an
animal spirit who gives us insight into ourselves, a glimpse of the divine
powers at work in our world, and can transcend us to a place of healing
for ourselves and other people.

Running Into Magic
by Larry Alboher
The day began with a routine morning jog and ended with my initiation into
timeless mystery and mind-bending magic.
My esoteric teacher, Don Pablo, and I started to slowly circle the oval
track of a northern Mexico spa. Don Pablo, as usual, encouraged me to
bring the energy in my body down into my lower half and become fully
grounded and connected to the earth. Months later I would truly learn what
this connection felt like and why it was so important.

Healing Wombs: Maya Abdominal
Massage
by Patricia Burke with Rosita Arvigo
Catherine arrived at the yoga studio looking weary and subdued. As she
joined the circle and began to check in with the group, her story gently
unfolded. She had been experiencing increasing digestive problems and
discomfort, and awoke in the morning to discover that her uterus had
prolapsed. The cervix was extending out through the vaginal opening. She
felt as if she was carrying a bowl between her legs, and it was bearing
down on all her organs of elimination. I was horrified for her.

Women Returning Home to Mother Earth
by Florence Gaia, RN, M.Ed.
Not far from the white topped peaks of the
Continental Divide we walked round the bend of a wide grassy trail and
stepped into the bright summer light of a Rocky Mountain meadow. My breath
caught. The beautiful sight ahead took me to another time 150 years or
more ago: grass as high as your hip, four tipis with strips of colored
fabric fluttering from pole tops, a large council tipi in the north corner
of the meadow, a small moon lodge tipi at the south end, and a big fire
pit in the meadow's center. So began two extraordinary wondrous weeks 10
yrs. ago that would change my life forever. Twenty-four women
gathered together on a 8,000 acre Montana horse ranch surrounded by
mountain wilderness on to study and experience Native American
spirituality and women's ritual with Brooke Medicine Eagle, a Native
American Earth Wisdom teacher, from the Crow and Lakota tribes.

Plant Spirit Healing
by Sage Blue
In our back woods there is an old cedar
grove. For many years, I would sit within the grove and talk to the cedars
and to pray. One day I asked the cedar trees what they would like from me.
The answer was immediate and clear: “Please give us pictures of all the
other trees that we hear from, but have never seen”.
I made a mental image of twin cedars a half
mile or so away and the cedar grove joyfully sent a message directly to
its sisters. Whenever my students and I visit the grove, we meditate and
send mental pictures of particular trees from around the world to the
cedars. They (the cedars) now have a vast communication network that is
accessible from my thoughts and prayers.

Shamanism
as a Path of Service
Interview with Morwen
Two Feathers
by Carol Bedrosian
CAROL: I understand that your
primary interest is in creating a healing space for council around issues
of cultural division and the propriety of sacred rites and rituals. My
personal feeling is that it is very necessary for a bridge to be built at
this time because our white culture is so shut off from our earth-centered
roots and this is what has hastened our disregard for the planet and
spirituality in general.
MORWEN: Absolutely. The gist of it
all is that we live in a Christian, European-derived culture which is very
out of touch with its earth-based roots. It is very interesting to me that
white people are now embracing indigenous spiritual paths because, by and
large, we are still subject to the conditioning of our childhood which
told us that the European-based earth spirituality, which is Paganism and
Witchcraft, is evil. People are still in such denial about this
conditioning, yet at the same time they feel a pull towards earth-based
religion. Because of this, I feel they are turning to the earth-centered
paths which are not of our ancestors. But there's a special significance
to the shamanic aspect of it. I am using shamanic in the generic sense of
the direct contact with spirit...

Some
Might Call Me A Shaman
by Trish Casimira
As a shamanic practitioner and a teacher of
shamanism, I am often asked how one becomes a shaman and how, indeed, I
became one. I was chosen.
My awakening occurred during an
extraordinary week in my life when everywhere I turned, the subject of
shamanism was present: It was the summer of 1993 and I had some healing
work gifted to me by a college mate. She used crystals and Reiki, and as
she worked on me she began to see things with her psychic awareness which
were vivid and profound, but made no sense to her. She saw me floating in
a cathedral-like place with a flame over my head.

Shapeshifting With John Perkins
An interview by Carol Bedrosian
For the past two decades John Perkins has
visited, lived with and learned about indigenous culture from several
tribes in the rainforests of the Amazon and Andes. In his three books
detailing his experiences—The World Is As You Dream It,
Psychonavigation and most recently, Shapeshifting (Destiny
Books)—John has shared much of the wisdom he has learned from tribal
people in hopes of creating a "dreamchange" that can move us
away from the industrial world's dream of dominating and harnessing
nature...

An Interview with Jimi Two Feathers /
Co-founder of Earth Drum Council
by Carol Bedrosian
CAROL: Is there such a thing as
non-native people?
JIMI: I don't think so. The question
is native from where? Also, where do you think you are from and where do
you feel connected to? I can say I am native to Cambridge, Massachusetts,
because I've been here all my life...
