Do
We Have Control Over Our Lives, Or Is Life Simply Determined By Fate?
The Automatic Writing of Robert Irving
[Automatic Writing is a process of shutting
your conscious mind off to allow your unconscious mind to take over your
writing—allowing
your higher-self and/or spirit-guides to write (communicate) through you.
It is important to understand that the messages below were conveyed to
Robert Irving but the lessons taught are not limited to his life—they
pertain to everyone.]
Is
there anyone there?
Yes,
we are here. How are you Robert?
Fine
thanks, and you?
We
are fine. Do you have a question today?
Well, I have not
done this in awhile. I thought that perhaps you would have something that
you wanted to convey to me?
We
have much to convey to you, but you do not have enough time for all of it.
Why don’t you ask a question?
Okay,
Do we have control over our lives, or is life simply determined by fate?
There
are two issues at stake here: that which we have control over, and that
which we have no control over. Wisdom is knowing the difference.
You
have more control over how your life develops than you may think. If
people did not have this control, there would be very little point in
having the human experience. So, you do have self-control over your life.
This means you have choices. For the most part, choices are the catalyst
for change. You can choose to change or choose to be dormant. Even the
choice to do nothing is a choice—the act of doing nothing.
Sorry I lost you for
a moment, please continue...
Robert,
choices are the reason we take on human form. However there are certain
events in life that are not in your control. A traffic jam is one example.
An earthquake is another. These are the situations you find yourself in
that allow you to make choices. How you act, how you handle yourself in
any given situation is your choice. This will dictate what direction your
life will take. But these circumstances for which you have no control are
your testing grounds for making choices. Here you can discover how you
have grown according to which choices you make. Here you can change your
life in an instant according to the choices that you make.
Of
course, one choice that leads you in a direction that appears unpleasant
is not necessarily a bad choice. Change often feels uncomfortable or
unpleasant. Exercise is unpleasant to some people—especially those who
need it most. Therefore, the results of their choice to exercise may at
first appear unpleasant—aching muscles, sore joints, etc. But the choice
to exercise is a positive choice for change unless you overdo it from the
start. Balance is the key, of course.
When
stuck in a traffic jam, you have many choices. You can take that moment to
relax. You can appreciate the moment of time you have to slow down and
realign yourself with the present moment. Or you can elevate your blood
pressure, yell at the other drivers and pound your fist onto the
dashboard. Are we making sense to you, Robert?
Yes, that makes a
great deal of sense.
When
we follow our intuition, that is the best way to make right choices.
Intuition is your higher-self guiding you toward the best choice. Can we
make “wrong” choices, you ask? Yes and no. A wrong choice is only
wrong because you will suffer for it. There is no punishment;
usually the action that follows the choice is the suffering.
Getting angry and pounding your fist in a traffic jam is the suffering.
The choice you made was to get upset at this event of which you had no
control. So the choice wasn’t necessarily wrong. But there was a better
choice—using the moment to find peace within yourself.
Does
this make sense to you Robert?
Yes, you are
making total sense.
What
else happens when we make wrong choices? The effects can also be
long-term. A choice to try heroin can have a long-term negative effect.
The choice to harm someone can have a long-term negative effect. The
choice to cheat someone can, too. These are choices that may at first seem
like the right choice because they may have an immediate positive
effect—the drug may make you feel better, cheating someone out of their
money may make you feel richer—but the truth is that they were poor
choices that will cause you to suffer later.
Of
course, anywhere along the line, choices can be reverted. You can stop
taking drugs, begin treating people with love instead of anger, and start
a habit of giving instead of cheating and taking. But then many people
will still have to heal from the poor choices you made. That is the
concept of karma—a subject for another time. Even though we may change
our ways and begin making better choices, there are still the residual
effects of past choices. If a life was taken by another person, that life
can not be restored regardless of how the murderer changes. Karma will
help to balance that out in other lifetimes or in our world (the spirit
world).
You,
Robert, have made some good choices to follow your intuition and go for it
with your new business. You are choosing to ignore your fears and trust
that this choice is the right one. You are correct, and each day that you
are able to keep this trust you will see new growth in your business, your
relationships and your surroundings—the people who are affected by your
choices to work in this area. We are guiding you and you are listening. We
know that it is not easy for you to have so much trust, relinquish so much
control and not know where this is taking you. But you know that you are
moving in the right direction because it all feels so right. And every day
you see signs that your choices were good choices—made out of trust and
love and not with greed or personal gain in mind. For this you will profit
in ways you will only understand when you return home to us. We are proud
of you and your work. And we are helping you.
We
mentioned balance, and feel it is important for you to keep balance of
body, mind and soul while you are absorbing yourself in your work. There
can be too much of a good thing. Exercising “all the time” is just as
unhealthy as never exercising. Working “all the time” deprives you of
experiences and opportunities for experience, love and growth that you
cannot gain from work. Find balance in your life, and the work you are
doing will still move forward and prosper with great abundance for those
you are working for and yourself. Fear not. There is no finish line that
you are racing toward. There is no time clock that is judging your growth.
Enjoying
the journey is as much the goal—the point of the journey—as is the end
result of the journey. Do not miss the flavor of the steak just to fill
your stomach. Do not miss the kiss just to experience the orgasm. Do not
miss the sunlight on your face just to get the healthy-looking tan. These
are the true benefits of life experience. It is not always the end result
that is the best part.
Along
with this reminder to find balance in your life, we must remind you to
meditate. We do not want you to live in the spirit world, just to remember
it. To remember your home is to remember your purpose, and it will empower
you to fulfill that purpose. It will also give you the strength and
courage to make the right choices—not always the easy choices, but the
right ones.
We
hope you will do this exercise of automatic writing more often. You gain
much for it, as do we in communicating with you. Now go and enjoy the day.
We will be with you.
