The
Naked Truth: Weight Loss and Our Relationship with God NEW!
by Trish Whynot, D.C.Ed.
Since each of us is at one and
the same time a physical and spiritual being, everything in our lives,
every problem we confront, has both a physical and spiritual aspect. Even
those things that seem simply physical in nature, such as our bodies, are
in truth also spiritual. It makes sense then that if we go deeply
into our relationship with our physical selves that we will soon find
ourselves in the realm of spirit. At the root of everything lies our
relationship with God[1]. We find Him wherever we look, even when we look
into our most bodily selves as we struggle with weight
A spiritual approach to any pursuit—even
one as seemingly mundane or material as weight loss—always brings us to
a deeper truth. Some people who have an aversion to God or religion are
drawn to this deeper truth, while others who profess to be spiritual are
secretly avoiding the truth. We can be in denial or unaware of the
existence of God or of truth, but that doesn’t diminish the existence of
either.

Don’t Buy Into
These Exercise Myths
by Larry Goldberg
The past decade or so has seen an explosion of research about nutrition,
exercise and the human body. Some of this research has confirmed what we
already knew—things like, a healthy diet and regular exercise make you
live long and prosper. Some research, however, has proven that some
“common wisdom” about exercise is just plain wrong. Here are ten
myths that you don’t want to buy into.

I Have a Body: Health for Your Body, Serenity for Your Soul

The Buddhists tell us that we have a body but we are not our body, a mind but we are not our mind, an ego but we are not our ego. Are All Diets Unhealthy?
by Cynthia M. Bulik, Ph.D., and Nadine Taylor, M.S., R.D.
Want the short answer? Yes. Now, you may be thinking, "If I don't stay on some kind of diet, I'll just blow up like a balloon. I need to be on a program just to keep control of myself." But consider that any kind of dieting involves a diet mentality, which ensures failure, encourages you to ignore hunger and satiety signals, and promotes a negative relationship with food, because you have to give up "forbidden" foods and, often, eat foods you don't really like. This inevitably results in giving in, which often means bingeing and feeling terrible about yourself. So, though this idea may sound radical, we firmly believe there is no good diet.

Eat at the Right Time of Day
by Felicia Drury Kliment
One to two hours after eating dinner at 6:30 in the evening, Bob and Amy Gerahty used to come down with acid indigestion. Although they didn't go to bed until 11:00 P.M., the symptoms lingered, preventing them from getting to sleep. They blamed their indigestion and insomnia on the food they ate for dinner. Their typical evening meal consisted of red meat, mashed potatoes with butter, salad, and a vegetable. Having heard so much about the harm a diet heavy in red meat and saturated fat can do to the heart and arteries, they became convinced that the food they had for dinner was at the root of their digestive problems. So they switched to chicken, fish, and polyunsaturated oils, but it didn't ease their indigestion. No matter what they ate for dinner they got acid reflux afterward. The years passed and they continued to lie awake at night with painful esophageal and stomach problems.

that all these issues are indeed separate and unrelated, just as are the
factions of people who either supported or disagreed with each position.

conditioned to believe that technology is the inherently evil nemesis of
nature forever destined to be Yin and Yang at incompatible odds with one

sacrificed for the other. This belief has left available only the illusory
options of either abandoning the "urban" life for huts in the

natural resources to sustain the modern lifestyle of our unabated modern

The Exact Reason Why Cardio is Essential: Avoiding The Starvation Response

Most of the time, when someone decides that they want to lose fat, they
inevitably head for the nearest fad diet. However, 95% (closer to 100%) of
the time, these fad diets fail. The reason they fail is because exercise
is rarely incorporated into the program. In order to lose fat, there must
be a deficit of calories in the diet. In other words, your body must use
more calories than you eat in order to use its fat stores for energy. This
seems simple enough; however, it becomes a bit more complicated.

Water is the central source of our beings. It is part of every cell and

that weaves us all (earth, animal, human, and plant) together as one? Is
it the ultimate connector? It's awesome and humbling that water carries so
many entrained messages, especially when we consider that there has been
the same water, and the same amount of water, on the earth for millions of
years. What messages are we receiving from our ancestors when we drink?
And it is overwhelming to think that in the past 60 years alone, the human
hand has imprinted so much pollution on the water, bringing it out of
healthy balance. It is our spiritual obligation to be water's caretaker
and cause it no further harm.

High-Protein Diets: Are You
Losing More Than Weight?
by Monique N. Gilbert
Protein is a vital nutrient, essential to your health. In its purest form,
protein consists of chains of amino acids. There are 22 amino acids that
combine to form different proteins, and 8 of these must come from the
foods we eat. Our body uses these amino acids to create muscles, blood,
skin, hair, nails and internal organs. Proteins help replace and form new
tissue, transports oxygen and nutrients in our blood and cells, regulates
the balance of water and acids, and is needed to make antibodies.

6 Ways Soy Benefits Your Health

Soy foods do not have any cholesterol, and most are high in fiber. Soy

Research shows that a daily intake of at least 25 grams of soy protein and

This is the equivalent of 1-2 servings of soy foods a day. Here is a list

they have few ways to get them. What is unique about sports is that they
offer kids an arena where they can earn attention and respect by exerting
their natural abilities. Kids are good at sports because sports are
essentially about speed, strength, coordination, vision, creativity, and
responsiveness—the necessary physical attributes are the attributes of
youth.

With much attention on how soy can help women, many men wonder if it can
help them too. The answer is an overwhelming yes. Besides
helping fight heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure and diabetes, soy
appears to have a positive effect on male hormone-related cancers, like
prostate cancer. In fact, a recent study of Seventh Day Adventists
in California found that men who regularly drank at least one cup of
soymilk a day, reduced their risk for prostate cancer by 70 percent.

by Ira M. Sacker and Marc A. Zimmer
Are you dying to be thin? If the question hits home, stop and think for
a moment. How much time do you spend every day thinking about your weight?
Maybe you diet in spurts, losing those 10 or 15 or 20 pounds, getting all
that praise from the people who are important to you. And then maybe
gaining that same weight back over a few months, a year, or more.

What Your Doctor May
Not Tell You About Knee Pain and Surgery
by Ronald P. Grelsamer M.D.
It seems incredible that after four years of medical school and four to
six more years of orthopedic training, an orthopedist or physiatrist
(rehabilitation specialist) could still be deficient in his or her
knowledge of the knee. And yet it's true. Over the last four decades, the
world of orthopedics has become huge.

The Ki of Aikido: An Oriental
Concept of Energy, Self and Mind
by Charlie Badenhop
There are many different ways to perceive,
utilize, and benefit from energy. What I offer here is one of many ways.
Indeed when I do other kinds of activities I perceive of and work with
energy in quite a different manner. What follows is my experience of
energy while performing Aikido over the course of more than twenty years.
Certainly there are likely to be many other Aikido practitioners that
would explain their experiences and beliefs in a manner that is somewhat
different than mine. I offer you here, one experience, my experience, and
thus all that I say is part of my belief system, and not at all
necessarily THE truth.

Demystifying Acupuncture: A
Personal Encounter
With The Mysterious Cures Of Acupuncture
by John Herlihy
Utter the word acupuncture in polite
company and images of oversized needles and Chinese doctors searching for
a crucial nerve may come to mind. At best, people may think of acupuncture
as a medical cure effective for others, but not for themselves. At worst,
the instinctive horror of needles, like the terror of the dentist’s
drill, puts people off any thought of approaching this alternative source
of medicine without a second thought. In the medically advanced Western
societies, many people even consider this ancient traditional wisdom to be
a raw and radical new alternative to the progressive, techno-based Western
approach to medicine. Perhaps the time has finally arrived to demystify
the aura of uncertainty that still surrounds the modern-day practice of
acupuncture.

Last November, on a whim, I took my first
yoga class while at my fitness club. I didn’t know it at the time, but
I’d walked into a class led by a teacher of Anusara Yoga, which means,
“flowing with Grace,” or “following your heart.” The teacher said
things like, “scoop the tailbone,” “let your heart shine out from
the pose,” “inflate the kidneys,” “inner spiral the thighs,” and
“watch your shoulder loop.” Confused, exhausted and drenched in sweat,
I loved every minute of it.

Fail-Safe Ways To Shatter A
Strength Plateau
by Frank Klesitz
Training Frequency
Aggressive strength training for several weeks takes a toll on your neuromuscular structure. To allow time to heal and time to GROW, it is best to reduce your training frequency. For example, if you were to train the chest three days per week, reduce the frequency to twice a week. This will allow for ample time for your muscles to fully repair. With a fully functional neuromuscular structure, you can engage a greater intensity during your workouts.

How To C.O.P.E. With
Anger
by Debbie Eisenstadt Mandel
We fill our lives with dramas that rival the Greek Tragedies. We play the lead actors reliving the stressful scenes, keeping the conflict alive and ever present. Anger begins to dominate our thinking. However, who are we really angry at? When someone like a boss, a lover, a friend, or a family member pushes our button, are we most angry with that person because he or she mirrors what we most dislike about ourselves?
